Pastor David Stepp of Bakersfield Hispanic Church-
Maybe
it was inevitable that Pastor David Stepp became a minister. After
all, he was born in Venezuela, the son of a missionary father who
served in ministry for more than 50 years. The journey to the pulpit
was less straight forward than expected, especially after the young man
found his energe expressed in a business and marketing career with the
gas company.
A call delayed is still a call, and
after moving to Bakersfield, Pastor Stepp assisted in the children's
ministry of his church's Sunday School, creating Spanish services
with his wife Letty.
When it became clear that the Spanish
ministry had grown beyond the physical limits of the church, a
discussion with his wife concluded with the conviction that a new
direction of full time ministry, and establishing the Bakersfield
Hispanic church, were what God wanted him to do with his life.
His church is a member of the Faith In
Action Kern County network because he believes it is essential that
“the church has to be at work in the community. This is a
direction [that] gives any church significance” in the broader
community Bakersfield Hispanic Church are an enthusiastic and welcome
part of Faith In Action's local organizing work, especially around
the issue of creating a culture of educational achievement in Kern
County.
